There a few things about the Naruto Fanfiction scene that annoy me.

@"Saving it for marriage". While some people may hold this belief in real life (And it is their choice, mind you), Ninjas would not "save it for marriage". Their lives are on the line every time they go on a mission. They could DIE on a mission, for Susan-no's sake! It's even worse when it's SASKAY who is the one saving it for marriage and still going on dangerous missions, since if he dies, the Sharingan is DEAD.

# Rock Lee. For those who do not know, Rock Lee is a ninja in the naruto universe who cannot externalize his mystical energy (called "Chakra") and as such, focuses solely on the martial arts. My beef is not with him. My beef is with the fact that he is seen as deficient in the Naruto world. To use "The Night Angel" terminology, Lee is an Assassin in a world of Wetboys. Why has no one tried to teach him the ways of the traditional (ie, real world) ninja? He doesn't need flashy jutsu to kill someone or to disguise himself. All he needs is a proper costume to infiltrate, some poisons and training in various weapons.

# "Clan Re-establishment Law/Act". Most fanfic writers use this to justify Naruto or SASKAY having a harem. Basically, it boils down to "If the last survivor of a clan is male, they may take multiple wives in order to re-establish the clan. The council may assign the survivor wives if he does not find them before a certain period (Usually age 16)" Now, this is a good thing to have. My problem is not with the act itself. My issue with this is that there are at least 1 other person who could benefit from this. Kiba Inuzuka. We have never seen Kiba's father and as such, would probably be the last Human Male Inuzuka.

# The Power of the Council. Most fics tend to place the Council as a power equal to, if not greater than the Hokage. Excuse me, but isn't the council supposed to ADVISE the Hokage, rather than over-rule him/her? I would like to see a fic where the Hokage (Whoever he/she is at the time) have enough of the council's bullshit and remind them that Konoha is not, never has and will never be a democracy. Ninja Villages seem to be a Kratocracy (Rule by the strong. In order to become the leader, you must kill/defeat the previous leader. Only Amekagure has been shown to do this.) Another thing is the Civilian Council. A few fics I have read have had the Civilian Council have as much power as the Ninja Council, including the power to make decisions about the Ninja. Excuse me, but that is just asking for trouble. You do not have people who know nothing about the area making decisions about that area. There has only been ONE fic I have read where, after Hiruzen Sarutobi has died, a Ninja has stood up to the council and inform them that he is loyal to the Hokage and the Hokage alone. As such, he calmly informs them that should the council not have the best interests of the village at heart, they may be removed from office.

# Ninja Ranks. There is a growing trend to have fics that say that ANBU and Sannin are ranks in the Ninja Heirachy. There are only 4 ranks. Beginner Ninja ("Genin"), Journeyman Ninja ("Chuunin") Expert Ninja ("Jounin") and Master Ninja ("Kage", or shadow). ANBU is an organization. Each village has their own version. "Sannin" was a title given to Jiraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade and them alone. "Sannin" can mean "Three Ninja". If anything, the Sannin are Jounin level, if not Kage level (Orochimaru is [i]technically[/i] the Shodaime Otokage, Tsunade is the Godaime Hokage and Jiraiya was approached by the Two Old Fossils to become the Godaime).

# "Old enough to kill, old enough to drink". This is something that is horribly missing from Naruto fics. You have these child soldiers, train them to kill someone and then say "sorry, you are not allowed to drink"? you think that in a dangerous job like Ninja, the Hokage would lower the legal drinking age, provided you were a Ninja? Also, the Age of Consent. See "Saving it for marriage" above for why I think the AoC would be lower in the ninja universe. Mind you, just because the AoC is lower would not mean that there are going to be genin orgies. Just because you legally can does not mean that you should. I'm 22 and I can count the times I've drunk alcohol on one hand.

# Konoha and Bloodlines. As one fic put it "The council has a hard-on for the Sharingan." Konoha loev teh bloodline. Let's see, off the top of my head, Konoha has/had The Sharingan, Byukagan, Mokuton and possibly the Hiraishin (That theory is a tale for another entry.) Konoha has had the oppotunity to get their hands on the Hyouton, Dead Bone Pulse, Whatever Sakon and Ukon have, the Rinnegan. Don't you think that the Council would have a standing order to capture any opponent that possesses a unique bloodline? (The Expanded Universe of Halo had a Standing Order to capture Covenant Technology, so it isn't a unique thing.) Danzo would LOVE to have an army of Mokuton-using ninja at his command (There is currently ONE Mokuton user in the Naruto World. His name is Tenzo and he is the only survivor of one of Orochimaru's experiments into Mokuton. I'm surprised Tenzo isn't being forced to breed!)

# Ninja Training. From what I have gathered about the Ninja Academy, it seems to be an Elevator School (Regardless of your skill level, you will be promoted to the next year.) Also, Kunoichi Training. From the ONE episode that had images of the kunoichi class, they were sitting in a field and learning how to arrange flowers. Wouldn't Herb Lore be a better thing to learn than how to make a pretty flower arrangement? The Essence of Ninja is improvisation. Ninjas do NOT carry swords (This "Ninja-to" sword has NEVER been proven.) They may be trained in how to use them, but they don't carry them into a mission. They would kill a guard, take his clothes and weapons and infiltrate that way (Kind of like Solid Snake.) When the weapon would slow them down, they would discard it. If they liked the make of the weapon, they would probably stash it somewhere and grab it on their escape as a kind of trophy. The Exit Exam. From what I can put together, it seems to be a written test and demonstrate the three basic techniques. If you cannot perform one of the three techniques, you fail instantly. Does that sound like a Golden Snitch situation to you?

# Hinata showing disgust at implications of NejiHina. While it may be disgusting to our western sensibilities, this sort of thing DID happen in Feudal Japan. In order to keep the bloodline pure, noble clans would arrange marriages between cousins or siblings. Have you seen a Hyuuga married to a non-hyuuga? Chances are that SASKAY had an arranged marriage set up for him by his father to his cousin.
